Pravachol (Pravastatin) – effective for primary hypercholesterolemia
Hypercholesterolemia is not a disease, but a risk factor for developing atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease characterized by high cholesterol level in blood. In fact, cholesterol is a substance necessary for a number of important processes in a body. However, excess of cholesterol in a body leads to the risk of developing atherosclerosis. Reeducation of cholesterol level to normal rate holds up the development of atherosclerosis. Cholesterol level could be reduced with medicines and changes in diet. Reduce consumption of products containing animal fat: substitute butter with its nonfat analogues, eliminate such products as fatty sour cream, milk, bacon, etc. Besides that, you should use vegetable oil and as many products rich in fiber as possible (vegetables, fruit, berries, cereals, etc.) -they promote excretion of cholesterol from a body. Pravachol (Pravastatin) is an effective medication mainly used for treating primary hypercholesterolemia type II A and II B (in cases when dietary treatment turned ineffective or in patients who are at risk to develop coronary atherosclerosis), hypercholesterolemia in combination with hypertriglyceridemia; coronary heart disease prophylaxis ( reduction of miocardiac infarction risk). Pravachol (Pravastatin) is taken once a day before sleep. The initial dose is 10-20 mg (10 mg in patients with history of kidney or liver pathologies). In case of absence of proper results after 4 weeks of use, the dose could be gradually increased up to 40 mg, however the common effective dose is 20mg a day.
