Atarax (Hydroxyzine) – contrastimulant with many uses
Atarax (Hydroxyzine) is a medicine which is intended for treating the following conditions: neurosis concomitant with fear, worries and stress; organic diseases with the symptoms of fear and agitation (as a complementary therapy). It is also used in post-surgical period (as a sedative), for the treatment of itch and rash caused by allergy, withdrawal symptom relief, nausea and anxiety. Atarax also has soporific effect and is included in the formulation of many nonprescription drugs. Using Atarax (Hydroxyzine) as a sleeping medicine is more preferable than most prescription medications which usually cause addiction. Atarax (Hydroxyzine) intensifies the effects of analgesics. Atarax should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency and persons who deals with activities requiring attention and quick reaction (e.g. drivers). The possible side effects of Atarax (Hydroxyzine) are dizziness, fatigue, headache, sleepiness, excessive sweating, tachycardia, urination retention, dryness in the mouth, allergic reactions and constipation. Atarax (Hydroxyzine) dose for adults in general practice could vary from 25 to 100 mg; in psychiatry- 300 mg/day. The common treatment course is 4 weeks. The doses for children are determined depending on their age and weight. If Atarax is used in combination with other sedatives, the dose of Atarax should be reduced.
